OUR HISTORY

2012 - 2014, Wagner Hall

The adventure begins with a dream... Only joking! The adventure begins with an idea, as all the best adventures do. To turn this hidden corner of Brighton into something else. To provide a home fit for the best performers, comfort and fun for the most diverse audiences, and one that looks stylish to boot.

After six years of operating tiny fringe theatres above pubs, (The Marlborough and then Upstairs at Three and Ten), Otherplace Productions introduce The Warren in 2012. For the next three years the hidden oasis tucked away behind Churchill Square hosts all manner of epic performances from George Ezra, The Klaxons, Theatre ad Infinitum, and Shit-faced Shakespeare.  As the trademark immersive style of the festival is born so is the iconic Burrow.

2015 - 2018, St Peter’s Church

With crowds overflowing we decide to get creative which requires a little extra leg room. A hop down the road and we find ourselves just off London Road. With a little help from Wild Creations The Theatre Box is born and before you know it The Den, The Blockhouse and our unforgettable giant inflatable Hat open for audiences. With larger than life shows to match our stages Le Gateaux Chocolat brings the house down whilst The Biggest Marionette Circus in the World comes alive under the mid May sun. Guests become more like family as they join us on our adventure.

2019 - Present, Victoria Gardens

SILENT_DISCO_AUDIENCE.jpg

Crowned the unofficial hub of Brighton Fringe we set ourselves amongst royalty and find what feels like our forever home under the watchful eye of Queen Victoria in her much loved Brighton gardens.

Our reputation and site become a celebration of the famous, the forgotten and the unknown. Hosting nearly 1,500 performances across the month the heart of the organisation still acts as a platform and cherishes art in all its fabulous forms.

A larger site requires some new spaces and The Nest, The Bunker and the Scrapyard (home to Silent Disco) are all created. Whisking you away, the Warren roots itself in bringing shows to all ages and an unforgettable experience from the moment you arrive.
